Singer Butch Moore, 1966. Butch Moore was an Irish showband singer who shot to fame as Ireland's first ever Eurovision Song Contest representative in Naples in 1965. The song "Walking in the Streets of Rain", penned by then 14-year-old Teresa Conlon O'Donnell was a huge hit and Moore secured sixth place in the competition.
From 1960 to 1966 he toured with the successful Capitol Showband, performing in dance halls across Ireland as well as internationally. The group were regulars on television programs like The Showband Show as well as performing in London and the United States.
In 1970 Moore relocated permanently to the United States where he died in 2001; he is fondly remembered as one of the greats of the Showband Era. (Part of the Independent Newspapers Ireland/NLI Collection)
