The Taoiseach Mr. Liam Cosgrave, beside the marble tablet which marks the spot at Casement Aerodrome from which the Bremen started its take-off on 12th April 1928, to successfully fly the Atlantic from east to west for the first time.

The first east-west non-stop transatlantic flight, in April 1928, flew from Baldonnel, Ireland to Greenly Island, Canada, in a Junkers W 33 monoplane, the "Bremen". The crew of the Bremen were Capt. Hermann Köhl, Col. James Fitzmaurice and Baron Gunther Von Hünefeld.
